The TCU women's soccer team concluded their 1995 season at the Southwest Conference tournament in Dallas. TCU matched up against Texas Tech in the tournament's first round. The Lady Frogs fought the Lady Raiders to a scoreless tie, but were eliminated from the tournament after losing a penalty kick shootout to Tech 4-3.
It was the first, and last season of SWC Competition for TCU before joining the ranks of Western Athletic Conference soccer in 1996. TCU finished their 1995 season at 8-12-1, 1-3 in SWC games.
Among their victories this year were a 3-1 overtime win over Texas Tech in Lubbock, and a 1-0 upset of regional power Colorado College in tournament action. TCU finished 5-5 in home contests, including wins over Midwestern, Mississippi State, Stephen F. Austin, and North Texas.
The Lady Frogs were led this year by senior Angela Garrett, who moved from her accustomed role of defender to the forward position this season. Garrett responded by leading the team in scoring with nine goals while starting in all 20 games.
For her efforts she was named second team All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association, and also the SWC all-conference and academic all-conference teams.
Coach David Rubinson started six talented freshman during the 1995 season: the tandem of Stepha Seagraves and Emmy Tekell in goal; Nicole Kitagawa at midfield, Meagan Malovoz on defense, and forward Becca Beitler and Melissa Dale. TCU graduates four seniors, but will return eight starters.
Along with the move to the WAC, 1996 will also mark the first season TCU offers athletic scholarships for women's soccer. The five inaugural signees are: Allison Calleri of Arlington, Jennifer Gassiraro of Bedford; Kimberly Morton of Lawton, OK, Ashlee Richmond of Edmond, OK, and Andrea Smith of Duncanville.
