- (8/02) Tenative men's basketball schedule includes two
games on ESPN (Texas Tech, UNLV) and two on ESPN2 (Purdue, Utah). All non-conference games are at home, except for tournaments.
- (7/31) Kickoff time for the TCU/Kansas home opener has been moved to 8:05pm. The game
will be telecast on ESPN2.
- (7/26) Jon Drummond advanced to the semifinals of the 100 meters.
Drummond finished 2nd in both of his heats (10.08 and 10.17). Raymond Stewart advanced
to the 2nd round, but did not make the semis (10.38 and 10.18)
- (7/25) Walter Soza won his heat in the 200 IM with a time of 2.06.15. His time finished 20th overall.
- (7/25) John McKenzie, the cross country and assistant track coach at TCU, has
resigned. McKenzie, who had been at TCU for 12 years, has accepted a position
with a Fort Worth investments firm. McKenzie coached the field events, as well as
working with TCU's distance runners.
- (7/24) The TCU vs Kansas home opener will be televised by ESPN 2.
- (7/22) Walter Soza, participating in the Olympics for Nicarauga, failed to qualify for the
finals of the 400 Individual Medley. Soza won his heat with a time of 4:32.11.
In the 200 Butterfly, Soza finished 2nd in his heat with a 2:04.66. Soza, who did not qualify
for the finals, will next compete in the 200 IM on Thursday.
Soza and TCU swim coach Richard Sybesma, who arrrived in Atlanta on Wednesday,
finally received their luggage on Saturday night.
- (7/16) Karen Clayton, a center from Carroll High School, committed to TCU. Clayton is considered one of the top 20 recruits in the state according to Gordon Loucks' Texas Girls Basketball Report.
- (7/10) TCU's Ron Stegall finished second in the Texas Collegiate Amateur Open at Huntsville. Stegall finished with a 223, 1 shot behind the winner, Jason Hughes of UTA.
- (7/10) Angela Stanford won her fourth Fort Worth City Girls Junior Golf Championship by 19 strokes. Stanford, who finished at +1 (220), will be attending TCU this fall.
- (7/10) Former Flyin Frog Raymond Stewart will participate in the Olympics for Jamaica.
- (7/08) TCU swimmer Walter Soza will compete in the Olympic Games for Nicaragua.
Soza is TCU's first male NCAA all-American swimmer, and first Olympian swimmer.
Soza will compete in the 400 Individual Medley on Sunday July 21, the 200 butterfly on
July 22, and the 200 Individual Medley on July 25. His best event is the 200 IM.
TCU Swimming Coach Richard Sybesma has been selected as the Nicaraguan Olympic
Swimming Coach.
- (7/08) The TCU vs Oklahoma football season opener will be broadcast regionally by ABC. Kickoff has been moved to 2:30pm.
- (7/04) Denny Alexander opened the US Senior Open with a birdie, but fell to an 83 (+11).
- (7/03) Jon Drummond finished fourth in the 100 meters (10.0) at theAthletissima Grand Prix track meet in Lausane, Switzerland. Namibia's Frankie Fredericks won with the second fastest time ever, 9.86.
- (7/02) TCU Trustee R. Denny Alexander qualified to play in this week's U.S. Senior Open.
Alexander, an amateur who played at Stanford, shot a career best 66 (-5) at Woodhaven to qualify in late June.
- (6/21) Jon Drummond withdrew from the 200 meters competition at the US Olympic Trials.
- (6/21) Giesla Jackson of TCU finished 7th (24.40) in her first round heat of the women's 200 meters at the
US Olympic Trials, and did not qualify.
- (6/15) Former Frog Jon Drummond finished third in the 100 meters (10.01)
at the Track and Field Trials, and qualified for the US Olympic Team.
- (6/14) Bill Murchison fired a 68 to make the cut at the US Open (144). The story of his 15 passenger
van, which carried his 8 children, breaking down and needing $2000 in repairs was reported on ESPN.
Peter Jordan also made the cut (145).
- (6/14) Former TCU sprinter Jon Drummond advanced into the semifinals of the 100 meter dash, after finishing first in both the first (9.99) and second (10.00) rounds.
Tinesha Jackson finished 7th in the first round of the 100 meters (11.74) and was eliminated.
- (6/12) Reed Wainwright has been hired as the new TCU assistant strength and conditioning coach.
He replaces Sadd Jackson.
- (6/11) Former TCU golfer Bill Murchison will be playing in the U.S. Open
for the second year. He held a brief lead in the opening round last year. Murchison's caddy is his
15-year-old daughter, Jennifer, one of 8 Murchison children.
Former Frog Pete Jordan will also be playing.
- (6/11) J.J. Henry was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Golf Coaches
Association of America.
- (6/11) Tinesha Jackson will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials
in the 100 meter dash. Giesla Jackson will be competing in the 200 meter dash.
These two sophomores are the first TCU females to make the Trials since high jumper Donna Thomas
in 1984.
- (6/09) Flint Wallace was selected in the 27th round of the major league June amateur
draft by the Oakland A's. Toby Dollar, a junior, was selected in the 27th round by
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Derek Lee, a junior, was selected in the 28th round by the
Milwaukee Brewers.
- (6/04) The TCU vs Tulane football game on October 5th has been moved to 5:30pm, and
will be telecast on the Liberty/Fox network.
- (6/04) TCU announced the hiring of Gloria "Ap" Clarke to the position of assistant women's volleyball coach.
- (6/02) Former Lady Frog Kris Tschetter finished in 2nd place in the US Women's Open, after a
final round 66.
- (6/01) J.J. Henry finished in 14th place at the NCAA Championships.
Henry fired his fourth consecutive 74 to finish with a 296.
- (6/01) Brashant Carter finished 8th in the finals of the 200 meters (21.01).
