Malcolm Johnson signs with TCU

Horned Frogs Ink Johnson to Letter-of-Intent

(4/17) TCU Basketball head coach Billy Tubbs announced today that Malcolm Johnson, a 6-4 swing guard from Seminole (Okla.) Junior College, has signed a national letter-of-intent with the Horned Frogs.

Johnson chose the Horned Frogs over Arizona State and Georgia, a 1996 NCAA Tournament participant.

A native of Lawton, Okla., Johnson earned Juco all-America honors after averaging 24.0 points and 7.1 rebounds, in addition to recording a team-high 85 steals during the 1995-96 season. The Trojans finished the '95-96 campaign with a 25-8 season record.

He finished his two-year career as the Trojan's career-leading scorer, with 1,589 points and also set a SJC single-game scoring high when he netted 59 points against Redlands Community College. He earned NJCAA all-Region II honors following both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

"Malcolm has been the best wing player I've coached in 17 years as a head coach," said Seminole head coach Phil Ingersoll. "He was a big reason we won 46 games over the past two seasons."

Prior to his juco career, Johnson earned Oklahoma All-State and Daily Oklahoman Player of the Year honors following an outstanding senior season at Lawton (Okla.) High School, averaging 26.3 points and 11.0 rebounds.

"We are delighted to have Malcolm join our program," said Billy Tubbs. "He's a national-quality player who has great ability and can play either the shooting guard or small forward positions for us. He was definitely our top choice and will help take TCU Basketball to the next level!"

Johnson is the second player to sign with the Horned Frogs' this spring, joining NE Oklahoma A&M's Mike Jones. Jones averaged 22.8 points and 5.1 assists in 1995-96.
