HEAD COACH BILL MONTIGEL
Bill Montigel is in his ninth year as the TCU men's golf coach. Under his guidance, TCU has qualified for the NCAA regionals for the last seven years and advanced to the NCAA Championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996.

THE TCU LINEUP
Bill Montigel's lineup will include all-Southwest Conference golf honorees; junior Brent Wolf, sophomores J.J. Henry and Grady Girard. Senior Doug Roecker and freshman Alberto Ochoa round out the five-man squad.

FROGS AND THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
TCU has advanced to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships for the third consecutive year and the fifth time in the last six years. It will be the eighth appearance overall for the Home Frogs at the NCAA Championships. The Frogs have failed to make the cut in six of the eight appearances. TCU's best finish was fourth in the 1980 Championships held at Ohio State. The best finish for the Frogs at the championships under Bill Montigel was 16th in the 1992 season.

REVIEWING THE 1995 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
TCU appeared to be in excellent shape after the first round of the championships. The Frogs shot a first-round 294, which was good for ninth place. The second round started off promising, but hopes faded on the back nine as the Frogs shot a 301 on the day to miss the cut.

Here is a closer look at how the Frogs fared:
TCU 294-301--595 (21)
Doug Roecker 71-75--146
Brent Wolf 73-76--149
Andy Aduddell 75-76--151
Grady Girard 77-74--151
Deron Zinnecker 75-78--153

1996 CENTRAL REGIONAL
TCU overcame a disappointing first round with solid second and third rounds to advance to the NCAA Championships. The Frogs were in 18th place after a first-round score of 302. TCU responded with a second round score of 281 (-3 under), the low round of the tournament, which moved the Frogs into a tie for 10th place. TCU, led by senior Doug Roecker's 11th place finish, shot a third round score of 296 to finish tied for eighth. Southwest Conference foes Texas A&M, SMU and Texas finished first, second and third. The Aggies finished only eight strokes ahead of TCU. The Frogs and SMU each shot a tournament best 36-hole score of 577 over the final two rounds.

Here is a closer look at how the Frogs fared
TCU 302-281-296--879 (t8th)
Doug Roecker 72-72-73--217 (t11th)
J.J. Henry 79-68-74--221 (t30th)

FROGS IN TOUGH GOLF CONFERENCES
The Frogs will enter its final NCAA tournament as members of the Southwest Conference. The SWC will end as one of the strongest golf conferences in the nation. TCU, SMU, Texas and Texas A&M will represent the SWC in the NCAA Championships. All four programs are currently ranked among the top-16 teams in the Rolex Top-25 golf poll. After the SWC ends this summer, TCU will become a member of the New Western Athletic Conference. The golf competition should only get tougher. Five New WAC teams are in the 30-team field. Current WAC schools San Jose State and New Mexico, plus future WAC schools TCU, SMU and UNLV have all advanced to the championships.

TEAM NOTES
The Frogs were ranked third in the April 10th Rolex top-25 poll... that ranking was the highest in school history... the Frogs were disappointed with its first round at the Central Regionals, but it was far better than this time a year ago... TCU advanced to the 1995 NCAA Championships after they won the first hole in a sudden-death playoff over Northwestern in the Central Regionals... TCU has a record of 57-41-3 vs. the NCAA Championships field in the 1995-96 golf season... as a comparison, the Frogs finished the year with a record of 127-48-3 in head-to-head matchups vs. all opponents this season, a 71.3 winning percentage... the Frogs should not expect a dropoff after this season... Montigel will welcome back to the team next season, senior redshirt Deron Zinnecker... Montigel will also have the services of AJGA All-American Sal Spallone in the 1996 fall season.

Alberto Ochoa 78-81--159
Brent Wolf 78-84--162

The Frogs finished tied for 18th place, and are out of the tournament.

"We had three real good scores today, but we had to count an 81," said TCU coach Bill Montigel. "That obviously hurt us." "Overall, for the entire year, we played real well, but we're disappointed we didn't play well here. Our goal was to be in the hunt going into the final day, and that's still the goal for this program."

J.J. Henry advanced with his second consecutive 74, which places him 12 shots behind Stanford's standout Tiger Woods, who set a course record yesterday (67).

(5/29) TCU is in 26th place after the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Frogs shot a 311, and are only 8 strokes out of 13th.

J.J. Henry shot a 74 to lead the Frogs; Brent Wolf and Alberto Ochoa had 78's; Doug Roecker had an 81, and Grady Girard carded a 85.

"We have to play great, just average won't do it," said TCU coach Bill Montigel. "We had too many big numbers, doubles and triples," Montigel said. "It was a hard course, but the course was great. I just don't think we played very well."

Arizona State is the first round leader with a 286. The individual leader is Pat Perez of the Sun Devils, who shot a 68. Tiger Woods is one shot back.
