Ideally, in TCU's offense, 55 percent of the snaps are running plays and 45 percent are passing plays, which calls for 25-30 carries (plus 45 pass receptions) a game from the tailback spot - a chore Andre Davis handled so well during the three previous seasons as did Curtis Modkins in the one before those. Davis is gone and his probable predecessor Matt Moore - had his bright career ended prematurely by a tragic neck injury.

However, TCU's offensive staff has been pleased, if not encouraged, by the prospects at tailback thanks to the talents of at least a quintet of Horned Frogs: Andre Bruce and Basil Mitchell, a pair of sophomore speedsters, senior Sterling Boyd, redshirt freshman John Williams and Dana Robinson, yet another soph.
Except for Bruce, who was withheld from contact in the spring while completing his recovery from an ankle fracture, they all glimmered at times during TCU's spring toil. In fact, Frog staffers indicate that whoever one accepts the blocking responsibilities and pass-catching assignments quickest will most likely emerge from the pack. Interestingly, all of those tailbacking hopefuls have dipped under 4.5 seconds in the forty at one time or another so speed should not be a determining factor.
Koi Woods
Few of the above concerns exist at fullback, certainly not at the No. 1 spot where blocking and pass-catching are the veteran Koi Woods' primary calling cards. And there aren't many concerns about depth at the position. The rugged Woods is capably backed by a quartet of broad-shouldered Frogs - sophomore Lance Williams (6-1, 220), junior Derryl Williams (6-2, 220), senior Chad Renfro (5-11, 215) and sophomore Harry Fortson (5-11, 190).
