TCU Football Season Preview - Offensive Line

July, 1996

Pat Sullivan and his staff are every bit as proud of the available depth situation in TCU's offensive front as they are with that asset in the Horned Frogs' defensive line. Both are commodities Frog teams have seldom enjoyed in recent seasons. Not only is TCU relatively deep in its offensive forward wall, but it is also expected to be billed as solid as far as its first unit.

Top billing in this front fivesome belongs to preseason all-American Ryan Tucker (6-6, 295) at center, plus it offers talented Fabian Stegall (6-3, 275) at quick guard and Mark Cortez (6-3, 290) at strong tackle. All three were starters in '95.

The best projections to join them are a pair of sophomores - J.P. McFarland (6-4, 270) at strong guard and Greg Davis (6-4, 300) at quick tackle. However, McFarland and Davis both know they weighty challenges on their hands. McFarland's competition is coming from James Smith (6-5, 285) and Davis' from Jon Donahue (6-5, 270). They also are sophomores.

Stegall is ably backed by junior Doug Loeser (6-3, 280). Tucker can be comforted in knowing that promising redshirt freshman Clifton Clemons (6-3, 290) is available to provide him with relief. Cortez' support likely will be redshirt freshman Paul Harmon (6-7, 290).

Also in the picture to bid for playing time is junior Dave Towson (6-4, 270), senior Brandy Crow (6-2, 245) and freshman redshirt Scott Vanderzyden (6-1, 270).
