At Kansas, where he helped generate the Jayhawks' resurgence in the sport, Fello served his first three seasons as the linebackers coach, and his final four as KU's defensive coordinator and defensive line boss.
Prior to KU the 46-year-old Fello had sandwiched six years (1978-80 and 1985-87) around a Fair of seasons as a player scout for the Chicago Blitz of the USFL. He also spent a handful of seasons in the high school coaching ranks.
As a schoolboy at Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Fello had a sterling career as a footballer, wrestler, baseballer and trackster, earning a total of eight letters before signing with Kent State. He earned his B.S degree in health and physical education from Kent State University in 1974.
