Storyline
Texas Christian running back Andre Davis was kept out of today's
game with Tulane because of possible contact with an agent.
The university released a statement saying Davis was kept out
of the game as a precaution.
"Within the past 24 hours a question has been raised regarding
Andre Davis' alleged relationships with an agent," the school
said. "TCU is looking into this matter while working fully
with the NCAA. As a precaution, Davis and head coach Pat
Sullivan have agreed he will sit out today's game."
The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports that a source said TCU became concerned when they learned that Davis had taken out a $ 1million insurance policy with Lloyd's of London before the Independence Bowl. The agent in question, Houston attorney Jeffrey Newport, is former TCU Jimmy Oliver's agent. Officials are checking into a trip to Houston and other gifts that Davis may have received from Oliver or Newport.
Matt Moore, the replacement for Davis had 98 yards and a touchdown.
The key play: Knake recovering the fumble by Moore on the Frogs 2 yard line with a minute left to play.
Knake moved past Arkansas' Quinn Grovey into 10th place in SWC career total offense.
Tulane used the swinging gate play to score its two-point conversion.
Besides not having Davis, TCU lost its best offensive lineman, Ryan Tucker (concussion); Chuckie McWilliams had to leave the game, while top receiver John Washington broke a finger.
