  • Design for your target market. Offer them a new, interesting place to explore.
  • Give your audience a reason to look at your page. Your site can be entertaining while providing information. Not too many internet users are on-line to shop.
  • Consider offering an extra service at your site such as a free publication or newsletter.
  • Enhance your product or service. Your site should add value to your overall product.
  • Understand that your site is interactive. Encourage participation by providing them control over the choices they can make. Offer them the chance to respond through e-mail, and consider using a guest book, if appropriate. Build relationships with your customers.
  • While some designers many disagree, don't overdo graphics. It is very easy to become bored and leave while waiting for graphics to download. Remember that not everyone is using a 28.8 modem connection. Some may be using slower access services through America-on-Line or Compuserve, or using a 14.4 or slower modem.
  • Include your url address in all advertising material, and on your business cards and stationery. Promote your site when using traditional media. Notice how some are including their addresses in print ads, and on radio and television spots. Billboard ads would be ideal.
  • Keep your site fresh. Update it periodically. Utilize new developments.
  • Expect change during the next few years. Adapt to new technologies. It should be advantageous to establish yourself on-line now, to take better take advantage of future developments.
