About Honduras
Honduras remains a mystery to many people in the United States. Most people are surprised to realize that Honduras is actually closer to the borders of Texas than it is to Washington, D.C.! That makes the Honduran people truly our neighbors in a very special way.

Honduras is the poorest country in Central America. A few corporations, and certain individuals have immense wealth but most of the people live in daily poverty. Those living in the rural villages exist on a limited diet of mainly beans, tortillas, and bananas.
Although very underdeveloped as a nation, Honduras is a country of great beauty and caring, friendly people who quickly make you feel welcome and "at home" in their country.
The interior terrain is rugged and mountainous. The climate varies from subtropical to temperate. The people speak Spanish and about half of the population is literate.
