Welcome to Antelope Canyon

Pictures of an Extraordinary Place
Antelope Canyon, which is located near Page, Arizona,
is unlike any place that I have ever visited. In a trip that included my first visits to the Grand Canyon North Rim, "Gateway to the Narrows" at Zion, and Bryce Canyon at dawn, the visions of this unique natural phenomenon still stand out.
Antelope Canyon is known as a "slot canyon." Water and time have eroded the Navajo sandstone (Jurassic Period) found in this region into remarkable forms of complex beauty, producing narrow defiles, often only a few feet wide.
These pictures were taken by a Nikon 35mm, and later scanned and reduced to GIF files. No special effects or enhancements were added; only a touch of contrast and sharpening to bring back what the scanner loses.
I stayed approximately two hours (11am - 1pm). During the first hour, the canyon was lighter in tone, but as the sun angle changed as time passed, so did the canyon. Enjoy!!
